| As a respecter of democracy, Denis, then I’m sure you’ll agree that if at some point in the future the British people decide, after due consideration and by a significant majority that, for example, we wish to rejoin the single market then it would be right and proper for the government to act on the will of the people, no? The idea that the outcome of a very closely balanced referendum in 2016 should forever constrain what we as a country are allowed to do would seem to be the opposite of democracy. We must be free to change our minds and change direction if that’s what we want. And remember, we HAVE left the E.U. The 2016 referendum was respected. |
