Hi Maggie Not at all - Me (and others) not driving means that the capacity left on the roads leaves the motorists no worse off (or better off, as traffic fills to the capacity of the road - build more roads/parking and the cars will increase, and build less ....) I saw a picture of Walthamstow from 100 years ago and there was an electrified tram - no cars. Now, no tram and just traffic jams. So IMO public policy making controls the usage and numbers of cars, and we should encourage less usage for those than can. Last evening I went from Chiswick to Teddington for dinner by bus - would never have thought if it before (dumb eh) but that took 4 car journeys out of rush hour and the service was excellent (yes it took me 10 minutes longer than the car journey would have.) |
