No Tom, as you well know, from the words that I wrote, I'm not saying that £2 is going to destroy local economies. The cost of actually tackling climate change - the hundreds of billions of pounds required for retrofit, which will make by far and away the biggest impact, will torpedo local and quite honestly possibly national economies as the costs will have to be borrowed, by local authorities, who then have to finance this somehow. Making small reductions in car emissions will not in a meaningful way tackle climate change, but then charging drivers £2 a day is an easier fix than retrofitting millions of properties, eh? |
