I agree that something more needs to be done. The top news story that states there was 'some initial opposition' is clearly wrong. There has been major opposition, with I believe 87% of people wanting it reopened. That opposition is still very much there, for the reasons I have stated many times on W4. The traffic has been displaced to other roads, journey times have become longer, and therefore pollution increased. The story also claims that it has made it safer for people walking, as the footpath is very narrow. This suggests that more people are walking on the road, which I very rarely see. With buses, scooters, bikes, and many cars still using the road, it would be potentially very dangerous to do so. Finally it has definitely had an impact on how much shopping myself and others can now do sensibly on that end of CHR, as the option to drive and park on either Dolman or Chiswick Common Road is no longer an attractive option. I really hope others agree, and we can work on overturning this decision before it does become permanent. |
