Perhaps, Tony, Susanna was after a more practical answer free of rhetoric. Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on new examples seen elsewhere in the city, the pavement will be extended out across the existing bus lane in order to board the bus in the normal manner. Buses will come to a stop in the traffic lane shared by all vehicles. The existing bus lane will then become part of the temporary cycle lane. There is no need for anyone to step off the curb, cross the bike lane and then board the bus. Cyclists will be required to give way to those boarding the bus (fingers crossed they will) given all will be sharing the pavement at that point. |
