I am trying to get the point over again. New cycle lanes are making it difficult for wheelchair users to hail taxis in London, according to campaigners. Pop-up cycle lanes have been introduced across London as part of a £5bn package to encourage greener modes of transport, but the lanes mean taxis are often unable to pull up to the pavement. Disability equality consultant Mik Scarlet told the BBC he was happy for cycling to be encouraged but he wanted travel to be made more accessible in the capital. Video Journalist: Gem O'Reilly https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-53670087/london-s-pop-up-cycle-lanes-stopping-disabled-travel So the pop up cycle lane on Chiswick High Road will no doubt have a similar effect to an independent wheel Chair user trying to get to work or visit friends and family. When a Black Cab cannot pull into the the cycle lane to extended their Wheel Chair Ramps to assisted the person into the cab. So if it were me, I would have to find a local side road with a empty bit of Kerb, and hail a cab from there, the only problem is Black Cabs and mini cabs are not allowed down a lot of Chiswick side roads as they will be fined as rat runners. Most independent wheel chair users just what to get on with life as most people, but they don't need the stupid measures that the government is asking councils to provide on the name of Covid-19. Philippa I have no idea what your on about, I couldn't walk to a bus stop if I tried, I also haven't got a Blue Badge, but a family member has. I have had to alter my lifestyle to suite my circumstances, but even i think I have unjustly inconvenience by some of the more ludicrous traffic measures that are being introduced. I think the school streets are a good Idea, but the rest must of been made up in a Traffic officers dream. |
