Congrats Brad. I think that's a little harsh John re. the LPA planners still getting paid even if they 'cock it up' - as I regularly say on here many planning issues are subjective and lets not forget Inspectors are qualified planners, architects or surveyors who make appeal decisions at the heart of which are subjective considerations, and their judgement just happens to be the important one. But they 'cock it up' sometimes too - plenty of appeal decisions are overturned by the SoS. And, to give a genuine example of how contrasting subjective judgement can be, even by the Inspectorate, when I was at LBH we had a planning appeal and enforcement appeal (which for reasons only known to the Inspectorate they didn't combine, so each appeal was determined by a separate Inspector, who clearly wasn't talking to the other) and the planning appeal was dismissed one week on the grounds that the design and appearance of the shopfront was unacceptable, yet the next week the enforcement appeal was allowed on the basis that the design and appearance of the shopfront was acceptable !. Which perfectly illustrates just how subjective planning issues can be, and how even Inspectors (plenty of whom have worked at Councils) completely contradict each other. |
