Staff:Patient ratio in hospitals has been/is a problem in daytime as well and certainly at night.  It is quite amazing how few people there are working in hospitals on the wards at night.  Included in the people who need attention at night are those who come in for day surgery and have not been allowed to leave as well as those admitted at night.

It is the same with Care Homes.  Not enough people visit their relations.  If more visited then it might ensure that there was better care and visitors can also take a little pressure off the staff.  People in Care Homes still need people to talk to and if the staff are very busy then this is difficult.

And there is also a crisis with Homecare. Not everybody can afford to pay the £600+ a week and will try to stay at home for as long as they can.  These workers have to go from house to house and many are not paid properly by the agencies.  They should be paid for their time travelling in between service users.  What happens is that their time-tables show block bookings of several service users at the same time (which mean those service users don't get the time they should because it is impossible) or back to back bookings in different places.  Many of these service users are paying for their own care.  Those that aren't could more easily be overlapped only you never know what problems might arise anywhere so it is better to have the correct amount of time allocated.

The Carers will know exactly which people can't be got up, washed, dressed and given breakfast and medication in the time allocated.
