The home I was talking about above has had to tell some of its residents that they can no longer live there.  I'm pretty sure that this is because they need a lot more care than they can provide. From what I've heard all those asked to leave have dementia.  They have elderly partners who visit them there and moving them will not be easy. Staffing is expensive.

We need all to visit our elderly relatives more.  We need homes to be more accessible so that those in homes can be visited by their friends and relations who are not as mobile as before.  If we all visited more then we wouldn't end up with having to rely on whistle-blowers from within the staff.

As we live longer this becomes more difficult and we should be thinking about how accessible our own homes are. It would be good to see more TV programmes showing alterations to older homes to make them more accessible - after all new buildings have to be built to be more accessible. It would be a welcome change from makeovers!

We also need to be able to keep in contact with our elderly relations and technology can be a challenge.  Hearing and sight are often not considered enough.  Recently I was told that the Falls Services Team in one area do not actually contact the Sensory Services Team.

Hounslow Age UK run communications classes.  I-pads seem to be very popular.  Skype is a popular way of keeping in contact - remember many families are spread across not just the country but the world.
