"The Park and Staveley Road CPZ trial has been a success". In whose eyes? For the residents on those two roads who now enjoy living in virtual private roads - probably yes. For all the other affected residents in neighbouring roads - probably no. If I opened up an adult lap dancing / Spearmint Rhino club in Grove Park, there would likely be a huge outcry and objections by the thousand. If I then went to the club at 10pm on a Friday night and asked all their customers if they were in favour of having the club there, I suspect most of them would raise their glasses and shout "it's fantastic". I could then tell all of you that I have done a consultation and 95% of people think it's a success. That is precisely what the Council are telling us, by only consulting with the residents who now enjoy the luxury of a quasi-private road, at the cost of displacing large numbers of cars into their neighbours' streets. It's exactly the same thing. And our CAF should not allow it to continue. |
