Personally, I still think we need to get our own house in order first. Yes there are clearly elements of the system that are fundamentally flawed, like when you hear how someone has come over from Romania and we're not only paying his benefits but also paying for his wife and kids back in Romania. However, as I perceive it there's a huge problem in terms of many British people choosing to be on benefits because they're better off than if they were working. If that choice was largely removed for all but those who genuinely cannot work, then there would be less jobs available to immigrants, which, coupled with a more stricter benefits system for immigrants, would make Britain a less attractive proposition. |
