Adam, if, as appears to be the case, she was mocking someone on the internet who she did not know, but whose taste she found risible, she is an example of the tendency of the one-time worker's party to have lost connection with the people who created it in the first place (or on whose behalf it was supposed to have been created). Gordon Bean's "bigot" remark during the last election campaign was another example of the same thing. It is difficult to see how the present leadership of the Labour Party can really represent their traditional working-class voters when they seem so disconnected from their concerns and values. Someone like Alan Johnson would probably be able to bridge that gap, but Milibean Minor - never. |
