Are we really supposed to think and believe that politicians (be they Councillors or MP's) are completely in agreement with every single one of their constituents ?. Having worked in local government I know only too well how constituents in a single ward or borough can have completely opposing views and beliefs about what are the big issues, what are the priorities their politicians should be focusing on, and thus it is obviously impossible for any politician to serve all of their constituents. I vividly recall one local Councillor when talking to me during working hours in my capacity as a Council officer, describe one of his constituents as a 'arsehole', and I couldn't disagree with that description for a second as this particular constituent was, in my own view, nothing more than a trouble maker and a pain in the backside. Said it before and I'll say it again, some of us on these forums are incredibly "holier than thou". |
