Spectacularly badly timed own goal by Emily Thornberry but I'm sure many of us, myself included, think a small terraced house adorned with several huge St. George's flags for months on end looks extremely chavvy. I gather the owners don't vote and put them up for the World Cup (weren't we knocked out over 5 months ago ?) so the flags don't represent any kind of political statement either. Nothing to do with whether or not someone is proud of their country, I'd say the same whatever flag was on displayed, it just looks awful and tacky. But whenever Farage is spouting his stuff about Clacton and Rochester I always recall how a English doorman on the TV documentary Bouncers said something along the lines of how the punters in Colchester were "more normal/decent" than those in Clacton. My Dad is keen on UKIP too...suffice to say we don't talk about it ;-) |
