But was it a 'stunt' ? - she just posted a photo (without any comment other than "Today in Rochester") on her personal Twitter account. One could argue she was actually endorsing UKIP or supporting a display of 'patriotic pride'... Personally speaking, as with many things in the media these days, I think it's a complete over-reaction - the way the media is these days it's a wonder any of us ever dare set foot outside our front doors. When I see several national flags on a house other than during a major sporting event I think it looks chavvy, and at the other extreme one of my parents neighbours up north (who isn't remotely patriotic or interested in sport) has a flagpole in their garden which is clearly intended to somehow elevate their status above us mere mortals who choose not to have a flagpole. Nationalist pride is all well and good, by all means wave your flag at a sporting occasion or on a day of nationwide celebration, but all the time makes me somewhat uneasy. |
