The item in Private Eye was preceeded by letters in the BCIT and you can find out more on the sites in question. See www.richmond-online.co.uk. Whatever Private Eye says precisely Mark is correct when he says Tony Arbour's Richmond Council has launched a full scale attack on their equivalent of this site.

This is an extract from a post on their forum

'But now, worse than any of this by far, is the threat to all of us community website volunteers. The head of communications at Richmond Council has complained about volunteers working for the community websites to their employers and it seems the "word is out" on people who contribute to the sites. Richmond Council seems to be hell bent on disparaging people connected with the community websites which also puts our professional reputations at risk. I find this very sinister because I thought that we lived in a democracy, where each of us has every right to do what voluntary work we feel most committed to doing, and where freedom of expression is unquestioned.'

The lack of involvement of any of the Chiswick Conservative councillors in this forum and the fact that the only local Tory to post regularly seems determined to be disruptive perhaps means that such hostility is not confined to Richmond.
