I wonder who said that in the Financial Times ? If so, it is an appalling error of judgement as anyone who knows anything about the British economy knows that it is possible to increase government spending in key areas such as Education, Health, Development Aid and Defense AND lower taxes and cut the deficit simply by cutting Government waste. Even the Labour Government recognises that Government spending has gone upwards out of control under Chancellor Brown and that there is huge waste in the public sector which the Labour Party itself is not prepared to eliminate for fear of upsetting the public sector voters and unions. The Financial Times has supported Labour in recent years and has consequently lost credibility and circulation amongst its traditional readers in The City and in business as a result. It is now no longer a British paper, with objective coverage of the UK. It is desperately seeking to survive by turning itself into a European paper for the stagnant, declining Eurozone. Consequently the FT supports the pro-euro Labour party and opposes the anti-euro Conservative Party. |
