It is is so long ago I cannot remember if John Major ever made pre-electuon promises that taxes would not rise. If they did rise subsequently, they certainly rose much less than taxes have risen under Labour since 1997. I seem to remember that during the eighties and nineties, the Conservatives over a period of 18 years consistently reduced taxes while all the time Labour and the Liberals and, later, the Lib Dems were calling for them to be increased. John Major was and is not exactly my favourite Conservative Prime Minister but he was and is, Edwina Currie aside, a basically honest man who had to deal with a much more difficult world, European and British economic situation than the one inherited by the Labour Party in 1997. He put things right and Labour inherited the benefits. We had very explicit promises from Tony Blair and Gordon Brown in the past that taxes would not rise if Labour were elected. However since 1997 taxes have gone up at least 66 times, lots of new taxes have been introduced and the tax and benefits system has become impossibly complicated and so inefficent that some taxes are now costing more to collect than they bring into the Government. In the House of Commons yesterday, Tony Blair refused to give a commitment that taxes will not rise if Labour is re-elected. We all know that massive tax rises are inevitable if Labour is re-elected because Gordin Brown controls the Teasury and he is a kleptomaniac with taxpayers' money, taxing and spending our money in what will be a fruitless attempt to succeed Tony Blair. In contrast the Conservatives have said they will reduce government expenditure by cutting out £35 buillion worth of waste of taxpayers' money, increaee spending on essential services such as health and education, reform the public services and at the same time REDUCE TAXES. Be very careful regarding anything Tony Blair says. After all his own Chancellor and long time froend and ally, Gordon Brown is quoted in the book "Brown's Britain" as having told him: "There is nothing you can ever say to me now that I could ever believe". Be warned. Even Gordon Brown has been conned by Tony Blair. And Gordon Brown's attempt to become Prime Minister, by bribing the people with the money he has taken from us, is costing us all money. |
