| The threat of a Mansion Tax has already affected the market along with the increase of Stamp Duty from 5% to 7% for purchases over 2m. Zoopla are predicting an average charge of 15k per year presumable based what Labour say it will raise divided by an estimate of the number of properties worth 2m and above. If this figure (15k) is about right then all hell is going to break loose and the unforeseen consequences, mainly in London, will be enormous. Apart from the obvious, it could well increase demand and therefore prices for property in ‘cheaper’ areas, increase prices of property between , say, 1.4m & 1.9m, discourage people extending their homes or leases, people diverting money from their kids education, holidays, dining out, buying a new car etc. just to pay for this political tax. The net result of which will probably damage the tax take as much as it would raise. Yet another bonkers idea from the donkeys that ‘run’ our green & pleasant land. PS and don’t think you are safe in your 1.5m pound house…….. it’s just a question of time before you are clobbered. |
