| Tories is a term that is perfectly acceptable to Tories. A political party organising a meeting surely is already political without me. If the agenda is - how do we ensure the park operates within the restrictions imposed? - that's fair enough but if they are presenting themselves as a continued resistance against events in the park that is just ridiculous. Not all of their councillors voted against it and, as I understand it, one turned up late to the meeting so couldn't vote. On the lack of engagement - there was a three hour plus meeting to discuss the plan at the end of which it was determined that approval would be deferred with a lower ceiling on the number of events. The procedure in such circumstances is not that there should be another three hour meeting but that a decision should be reached more quickly. People were not denied a chance to have their say, they were denied a chance to repeat the same thing twice. There is cross party support for the eventual proposal as well as backing from the parks friends group and other users of the park. Nothing has been imposed on anyone - a very long consultation process has been gone through which deprived the park of a year's worth of revenue. The definition of a successful compromise is that it leaves nobody completely happy. Why not wait until next summer to see if the right balance has been struck. |
