The 2008 Lottery Project restoration of the Conservatory was managed and specified by English Heritage, even though Hounslow Council owned it. Sadly EH fell down on the design of the restored structure and specification of the timber used, and this has resulted in penetrating damp, largely from wind-driven rain, leading to extensive wet rot. Probably half the houses in Chiswick have 100-year old wooden sashes and frames that manage to survive these conditions intact, even those facing west. Perhaps EH should have used a local architect and builder, rather than their own experts.
