Aluminium extrusion would be wonderful. I suspect, though, that this conflicts with the word conservation. I had to repair some listed railings in Brighton a couple of years ago. Awful stuff to weld, full of all kinds of materials and any replacement sections had to be puddled iron, eye watering price.
Preserve the design and detail by all means but the material was only what was available  at the time and can be replaced.
