The 2008 major refurbishment was intended to set the conservatory into good shape for the (then new) Trust to take over its care.
That it is now, 17 years later, in "At Risk" condition, and as someone has said above, probably needs demolition and rebuilding in replica, is a statement on the inadequacy of the Trust members and staff in caring for the heritage in their control.
The restaurant should have been located in the conservatory - to be a source of funding for ongoing maintenance - and there would have been no need to build the new cafe, which I have heard described as the "crematorium".
