| I suspect most professional pollsters would agree with Jeremy's point that the responses you are going to get from people in during the day are going to be different from those you would get from a more comprehensive survey particularly when the measures impact is primarily on people who drive. However that is probably one of the least of the problems with the way this information was collected if it is going to be used to state categorically that at 'majority of residents' support the barrier. The main one is that it assumes that it is just Park Road and Staveley Road that are affected. This is not the case as the closure has changed traffic patterns on Sutton Court Road, Burlington Lane and Lawford Road. You can probably safely say that the majority of residents on Staveley Road like the barrier, why wouldn't they? The question what is the level of opposition on the roads that traffic is diverted to. Probably about the same as the barrier in isolation is a zero sum game. |
