| It's an interesting exercise but to say that it proves one way or another whether the local community supports or doesn't support the barrier is really stretching a point. There are a number of inherent biases including the positive view of the publication on the measure, the fact that people more dependent on cars would tend to be out and the unrepresentative spread of roads with most where traffic has been dispersed to not included. The Staveley Road barrier doesn't serve to reduce traffic within the area now that there are all the other restrictions but redistributes it around particularly onto Park Road and Burlington Lane. Even on those roads traffic may have fallen so people are experiencing less vehicle movements because of the other measures. Despite this I think it is a safe assumption that an individual's view about the barrier will largely be determined by whether it is diverting traffic onto their road or away from it rather than inconvenience when driving which is not that significant in the vast majority of cases. |
