The suggestion that Sam Hearn's political career ended in failure is unjustified. To the best of my knowledge many of his former constituents believe he left a legacy in his ward to be proud of and he contested an unwinnable ward to help his party out. Like so often Michael tends to become spiteful when somebody he disagrees with makes a valid point.

The independent analysis didn't assume any future shifts in transport modes because it is impossible to predict this with any certainty. Making journeys more inconvenient will discourage some of them being made but those that continue to be undertaken will be longer. The chances are that you will end up with fewer vehicle journeys but it is possible that vehicle miles will increase so you have more cars on the road at any one time and the net effect on traffic and pollution of LTNs would be difficult to measure. This seems to have been the conclusion of every independent expert that has looked at the matter.

We are likely to see falls in traffic and pollution however but that will have a lot more to do with the cost of fuel and the general decline of the economy.
