Hi Sam,

As you have been reminded many times, the AECOM modelling assumed no change in the overall traffic levels. Hence it is hardly surprising that no significant change in pollution levels was identified in the modelling.

The best predictor of pollution is the number of motor vehicles travelling along a road. That can be confirmed directly by the pollution monitor on the High Road which showed after the opening of C9 the traffic levels fell and the excess pollution levels with it.

As an overall reduction in through traffic has already been measured in Grove Park, it is likely excess pollution levels have dropped and the diffusions data should be able to confirm the current levels of pollution. I would hope that some of those diffusion tubes are located on roads that have not been affected by the traffic restrictions, providing a useful comparison even in the absence of prior data.

Air quality is one of the prime reasons to reduce traffic: it has been independently  estimated that over 20 people a year die early due to pollution in Chiswick. Misrepresenting the strong argument for taking action does a disservice to your ex-constituents. I hope we see a more balanced approach with the new mix of councillors.
