| My understanding is that permission needs to be granted for work on or the chopping down of any tree with a tree preservation order and most mature trees in public spaces will have one. The council would still have to apply for permission to itself. They have no obligation to inform the public what they are doing other than perhaps a site notice and a notice in the local paper. If the latter is required then they should be publishing the notices on sites like this in the accordance with government guidance due to the lack of a printed newspaper but they choose not to. |
