| Is the chopping down of mature trees a knee-jerk reaction to the cost of maintaining them or the costs when they fall/block and damage drains and kill people? It is particularly galling when you see large trees being craned into place at the Chelsea Flower Show and then see talk of sapling replacements here. How big is a sapling? What about leaf-fall? I love following the seasons through the trees - but do we always have deciduous trees in our streets? We do need to make sure that the only opinion on trees' health and continuing welfare doesn't just come from those in whose interest it is to have fewer to manage. Can you sponsor trees in LBH? The Councils are always having to grab or rather win grants waved around (or sometimes much more secret) from the Mayor and charities for replacements. |
