Why should old people, many of whom have very little money and who have paid enormous taxes to this country over very many years, be penalised? Like the genuinely disabled, there is almost nothing they can do to better their lot, whereas with many younger people there is an awful lot they can do - retrain/train, move to where the work is, start their own business, etc, etc. It certainly would be affordable if the government cut down on the massive amount of wasted money (did you see the recent analysis of the billions of pounds wasted on things like inefficient procurement?) and collected taxes from the big companies instead of either not bothering to collect it or giving them permission to avoid paying it? A mark of a civilised society is how you look after the weakest. The old and the disabled are exactly that. |
