A 40 year history of living in Chiswick provides the experience which shows that the Council has, over the years, made money from developing every possibility and once that is done it cannot be undone. If the Common is developed in this way for private use, this could then build into more extensive use which could result in the residents of Chiswick losing a much valued amenity. It is a question of being knowledgeable and letting the authorities know that we are aware of possibilities and not just an apathetic bunch who complain when it is too late. I am not suggesting that they are planning to build over the Common, they cannot do that but you could have, for example, a scenario like that proposed at Battersea Park where there were proposals to make people pay for the use of a new play area which means it is not for everyone just those that can afford to pay. Or take Hammersmith that now charges people for training in some of their parks. This park is used by everyone for so many purposes that it is important to make sure it stays that way. |
