Of course they deserve investment, but this smacks of using up a budget before it's lost. We are told that the current site has 'come to the end of its natural life and is no longer economical to repair'. I wonder if someone can explain this - is it actually cheaper to start from scratch on what is common land, and to landscape the old site? I think not. Is there also an element of council competition? Note that only a couple of hundred yards away and north of the tube line, Ealing's version is thriving - and is not having equipment removed on a regular schedule. Why will the council not admit that at least one other reason for moving the playground might be that on summer nights the age of the vistors rises and their 'play' does not involve swings and roundabouts. Is moving these 'activities' on to the common proper expected to reduce their frequency? I have written to the address on the notice, but perhaps unsurprisingly have had no acknowledgement. Perhaps now that the end of year holidays are out of the way, we will hear something more - have you heard anything more councilor Thompson? |
