Because the government isn't doing what the people want. Without having a referendum about every single small thing we won't have a true democracy. The government should respect the wishes of the people, and when it doesnt then then that's where a letter to your MP should help. I wrote to my MP shortly after 9/11 saying don't let the deaths of 4000 turn into 40,000 or more. Currently the total is well over 400,000, possibly double that or more. My letter was ignored. I matched with about two million to prevent the Iraq war happening, our prime minister ignored this and made one of the biggest mistakes in recent history. If a march is ignored then what is the next step? Voting for a government does not lead to a policy, as we have learnt recently. We have to hold those that abuse power to count, recently too many people have got away with too much which makes a riot of any size look very very tame. Believe me I will be involved with the next election in a pro democratic way. Democracy is something that is much more than voting every four years or so. Much much more. |
