Umm, Well I'd put the Robin Hood Tax in place for a start. Get billions out of the financial transactions passing through the country and slow down the machine just a fraction. See http://www.robinhoodtax.org.uk/ I'd use this money to invest in education - but where it should be, with a greater bias towards science, as that'll eventually get us out of many holes, such as peak oil. http://scienceisvital.org.uk/2010/09/28/key-messages/ Lastly, and this is something that I find myself facing each day, all students should have an aclimatisation course before leaving university. All large organisations are dysfunctional, tooling people up to deal with this and strive to overcome the childishness that is part of corporate 'professionalism' would save companies millions each year. UK companies would work much better if they ditched top down structures, embraced decentralisation and there where far less line managers and in-between folks. Rigid hierarchy and risk adversity to risk leads to chaos and greater risk in companies. This is a random one but we could over throw traditional thinking and super charge our economy (and also apply the same thinking to our wider economy). Or something like that. Stew |
