Personally I think the press coverage has been terrible. Let's not confuse violence against property with violence against people. One is vandalism, the other is, well, fighting. There was very little fighting involved at the student event, less than the average Saturday night in any small town and most of personal violence was from the police. Amongst many I know the view is that it's good to see that students are no longer the passive consumer monkeys there where in the 90s. In short it wasn't a 'hardcore few' as many in the building where far from hardcore. If anyone had seen the level of violence of the EDL then you'll know what unacceptable violence and intimidation of people is. This is not what happened at the student event. This was not violence against people. If this government continues with to cut as it does in the way it's doing it then there will be more unrest and the actions will get more intense. Don't underestimate the students, they can and will cause a lot of problems for the government if the fees are raised. I support the students, all of them. |
