Stew, I'm guessing that you have no direct knowledge of the financial services industry. You are wrong when you say the argument against this tax not being justified. It is generally acknowledged that putting up taxes on industries that have a choice where to relocate will cause them to relocate. Most large financial institutions have dealing desks in several locations and would switch business overnight as a result of a tax change. I'm not sure what the yardstick is for companies that you wouldn't want but your moral posturing would lead to real people losing their jobs. This would not be the highly paid front office staff who seem to be the main object of your animosity who would be transferred to Geneva or Frankfurt but the less well paid back office staff. |
