Hey Birna, Spot on there....I went to study film first at London College of printing, which became Metropolitan University of London, (I think) , and then Leeds Poly, now Leeds Metropolitan Uni, no fees, plus grant of £3,000 per year, and that was to study Fine Art....I can remember there were prehaps a handful of working class people in my year. And I was in the thick of the Rave scene up North then...smiley faces in Manchester!!, took every drug going and had a great time. !! In fact I did take out a student grant in my final year...that was the year they introduced them...for £400 - and I am yet to pay it back...still not earned the required £15,000 per year. Only a few years more and it gets written off!! But has society got repaid back for my education...yes, most definately. Though only the very rich are going to embark on a Fine Art degree now, knowing they will be around £50,000 in debt when they finish... But hey, who needs stupid artists, or those on humanties ( I see Roehampton Uni is about to lose it's world reknown Human Rights dept) roll on the Mc Degree and get those bright kids ready to lead the less bright in their new Mc job!! |
