Certainly. There is a very good way of predicting where Newcastle United will finish in the forthcoming season. Simply take a look at its track record: no disrepect to Geordies, but am I right in thinking that this suggests that it will finish further down the league table than Man U? In the same way, predictions of a steep rise in unemployment under the Tories are entirely likely to be borne out - for the simple reason that unemployment shot up when they last gained power. Another thing that shot up shortly after the Tories last took office was MPs' salaries. This happened only a couple of months after the 1979 general election: and a few years later, the Tories introduced the current system of parliamentary expenses (the one that so many of Mary Ma££eod's personal friends have benefitted from). You see, whenever Tories assume office (be it national or local) they immediately start complaining that they've had to take a pay cut as a result of giving up their previous occupation. This is why you can always count on them to ramp up their pay and expenses. Let that be a warning. |
