| Bus hopper fares provide unlimited free journeys within an hour of the first touch in. Not sure how we got to seriously considering a toll on bus users for using the bridge and not other vehicles but it isn't going to happen. Why a toll on other motor vehicles has been abandoned has never been explained but it seems to be off the agenda. The longer term answer has to be transferring the 'heritage bridges', as opposed to the concrete ones, to TfL. Reluctant as I am to give any credit to the Wandsworth Tories, it is notable that they are prepared to put Sadiq Khan forward as the person to sort this out. The same argument applies with Albert Bridge. These two bridges are going to require constant and expensive maintenance to keep opening which is beyond the capability of local authorities to fund. TfL has a much bigger budget and a capacity to borrow so transferring Hammersmith and Albert Bridge to it would ensure their future. |
