| Jonathan Porritt? I have read quite a bit of Jonathan Porritt and he is far more concerned with preparing for the inevitability of immigration due to human factors (global warming etc.) and respecting immigrants than he is about demonising them. In this link you use, this is the conclusion, by the way - Conclusion More detail is needed to see the full implications of these preliminary figures but two things are clear: • overall the number of people wishing to stay in the UK remains stubbornly high. • that attempts at further reductions may well be challenged by a combination of those involved in industry and commerce, higher education or humanitarian activities. I don't really see any of that as proof that immigration to this country is a negative or is not economically beneficial. Immigration is about so much more than being an economic benefit or not. The cultural benefits have been incalculable. This country's music, film, business, literature, television, sport and so much more have thrived thanks to immigration. |
