Nick Jefferson Our kids deserve to grow up in and around safe streets, not being at risk of being mown down by cars, or choked by their fumes. I lived in a cul-de-sac off of Thames Road in the fifties. Yes we had a garden and I used that, but when all the kids wanted to play football we used the street. But we had to be very careful at dinner times and early evening as the drunk drivers used to think they could use our road to get to the level crossing. They use to tear around the corner and hammer down our short road and slam on their brakes on to avoid the very large heavy wooden gates at the end of the road. Due to the piss artist who frequented the local pubs use to make our road quite dangerous at times. Now the odd bit. When the drink drive laws came into force. It created even more traffic visiting the area and using our road as a car park, I cannot explain that, but at throwing out time, you would be surprised of how many doors a four door car had at. Midnight. |
