Didn't intend to be patronising but you don't seem to have read my responses to your post before responding in turn. Therefore repetition is unavoidable. If you believe it is possible to run a profitable MTR point to the examples elsewhere in the world. As far as I am aware even in Singapore which is far less complex and has none of the legacy issues of London they don't operate at a profit. Switching to closing the parks, I don't think it is primarily motorists who will complain but anyone living on the roads which will get more traffic as a result of closure. After all one is subject to a moderate inconvenience whereas the other may have to put up with a significant deterioration in quality of life. I'm not familiar with the area enough to predict where the traffic might divert too but I'd be surprised if there weren't several formally quiet roads which become heavily trafficked as a result. A decision on whether to close or not permanently isn't a straightforward one. |
