Fair question Caroline asked in a measured way and deserving of a sensible response. In my view having a national nature reserve used as a shortcut by drivers to get from Richmond/Mortlake to Putney/Kingston, for example, is far from ideal for park users and creates a huge amount of noise and air pollution. A good compromise would be to stop through traffic via fines using ANPR to ensure that the only people driving are using the car parks to enjoy the park and its amenities. I do agree that enabling people with mobility challenges, for example, to access the Isabella plantation is important. As I understand it commercial vehicles are not supposed to drive through the park already but they do in vast numbers. I think the park would be much better for everybody without people cutting through it in their vehicles. All of this applies post-Coronavirus of course. |
