It is hard to believe that the developers of the Stanley Road site were unaware of the TfL proposal and felt enabled to pitch for such a tall building and a dense development because that is what TfL was doing. The Stanley Road tower is not as high as the main TfL one. The area is finished as an industrial area and that has nothing to do with a lack of a coherent plan. Ealing Council seem to have accepted the idea you can build a tall building in an industrial estate with lots of flats on the upper floor and workshops on the ground floor. Inevitably what will happen is that resident complaints about noise or pollution will make it impractical for any light industrial business to operate in the workshops. Parking and access issues will also make it difficult for firms to be based there. The South Acton estate is hardly an example of great strategic planning with very few communal spaces and no pubs in the area with local resources such as the working mens club disappearing. Combined with the absence of Churches and other places of worship means that it will be hard to form a genuine community in the area. |
