Blimey! I am just about old enough to remember the scandal over John Poulsen which led to the resignation of Reg Maudling. Since then the supervision and regulation of planning matters has been tightened up on hugely so out and out corruption probably rarely happens. However it looks like some of the current generation of politicians have learnt how to enrich themselves while not actually breaking the law but certainly flouting its intentions. TfL have form on this sort of thing as well. Don't want to go down the rabbit hole of CS9 again but it seems to me beyond dispute that TfL did everything they could to ensure the consultations delivered the outcomes they wanted and suppressed the results when they didn't. These people sometimes forget who they actually work for. |
