What on earth is the point of one car free day a year? Please? What will it do to curb pollution? Zilch. If it were four car free days per week, with sensible arrangements to not clog up other parts of Chiswick and just deposit the problem somewhere else - ie an actual strategy to reduce pollution - then I would be all in favour. But as yet I have heard no proposals that could do this. Unfortunately the idea of closing Oxford Street permanently to private vehicles has been abandoned. Unless there is a really workable proposal to stop private cars going cars through Chiswick which is in place for most of the year, that doesn't impede car owners who are forced because of where they live to access the High Road and doesn't just make the side roads a rat-run (a) it is pointless and (b) it won't happen. |
