You are either very young, or you have forgotten just how awful the governments led by Harold Wilson ("the worst Prime Minister since Lord North") were. And I don't know which examples of the daily print media you read, but it doesn't sound like you actually look at the more serious elements. I guess if you mostly receive your views from the Daily Mail you might think 90% of the media is intent on shutting down debate, but actually there are other alternatives to read where there is plenty of debate going on.
