Interesting article on the topic in the Independent - "David Cameron is considering a “middle way” option to the controversial planned repeal of the hunting ban in a bid to limit public outcry over animal welfare, it has emerged. A bill to axe the 2004 Hunting Act will not be in this week’s Queen’s Speech but legislation is expected before Christmas. While the new laws would allow hunting to resume, under consideration is a compromise that would protect foxes and other wild animals from “unnecessary cruelty”. Other options on the table are licensing or tougher regulation of hunting than existed before the ban came into force in 2005." http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/hunting-ban-david-cameron-to-propose-middle-way-to-limit-outcry-over-animal-welfare-10272210.html But apparently the Queen may refer to the fact that there will be a free vote on the issue, and I think the League Against Cruel Sports is right:- There is no "middle way" when it comes to hunting. No wonder hunters are happy with it - it would allow them to return to hunting just as before. The only way to stop the immense cruelty of hunting is an outright ban. http://ow.ly/NmT3t |
