As much as I think children should be vaccinated (and that is definitely one of my bugbears, I think not vaccinating children is tantamount to child abuse) I am uneasy about going down the route of making it mandatory, which to me just plays into the hands of conspiracy nuts and "woo" merchants. Better education has to be the answer, but how you go about this without stirring up the snake oil salesmen is beyond me. I think all you can do is aim for herd immunity, which I believe is about 94-95% coverage. The thing that most annoys me is that I have no issue with supposedly grown, sane individuals believing in idiocy, free country and all that, it's the imposition of these fallacious beliefs on the vulnerable with no say in them that makes my blood boil. |
