That's pretty much true of any line you build anywhere in the south east though (and one reason the Thames Estuary Airport is such a bad idea - there is more commuter territory to get through for most people trying to fly from there).

The new Thameslink trains also serve Luton Airport Parkway and will all have more luggage space than the old ones.  Looking at the proposed frequencies there are eight trains an hour, four to Bedford, two to Peterborough and two to Cambridge, quite apart from Victoria trains.  That's a fair chunk of capacity.

Gatwick Express is supposed to get new trains too, ordered last year for service next year:
